Sebastian Vettel Beberkan Alasan Mobil F1 Harus Lebih Ringan

SKOR.id -  Sebastian Vettel mengatakan bahwa mobil Formula 1 (F1) saat ini terlalu berat.

Meski berhasil memecahkan beberapa rekor, Sebastian Vettel merasa bobot mobil masih perlu diturunkan.

Sejak musim 2014, F1 mengadopsi mesin 1,6 liter V6 turbo hybrid.

Kendati kapasitas mengecil (dari sebelumnya V8 2.400 cc), tenaga mesin hybrid lebih besar (sekitar 1.000 dk) karena tambahan power yang signifikan dari motor elektrik.

Tetapi, mobil-mobil F1 saat ini memiliki peranti daya tekan (downforce) yang lebih banyak.

Halo, peranti pelindung pembalap di kokpit, juga menambah bobot hingga rata-rata mobil F1 kini memiliki berat 746 kg.

Itu membuat mesin tidak dapat mengeluarkan potensi sesungguhnya. Seperti yang dialami Sebastian Vettel dan timnya, Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow, tahun lalu.

“Mobil sungguh mengesankan dalam hal downforce," kata Vettel seperti dikutip Skor.id dari Autosport.com.

"Mobil menjadi jauh lebih stabil dan sangat cepat di tikungan menengah dan tinggi. Tapi Anda akan merasakan mobil begitu berat di tikungan kecepatan rendah.” 

Kini, setiap tim di F1 berlomba-lomba untuk membuat mobil seramping mungkin agar mesin dapat bekerja maksimal.

Desain alur udara juga dibuat semaksimal mungkin untuk membuat mobil melaju tanpa hambatan.

“Mobil terasa berat saat Anda berada di tikungan tajam atau tikungan balik arah (hairpin). Menurut saya, mobil saat ini terlalu berat,” ujar Vettel.

Belajar dari tahun lalu, Ferrari merombak mobil mereka musim ini. Hasilnya, Ferrari SF1000, menjadi lebih ramping dan ringan.

“Saya pikir kamu harus menghilangkan beberapa perangkat downforce yang tidak begitu diperlukan, untuk membuat mobil lebih ringan,” kata Vettel.

“Secara keseluruhan, kami masih memiliki catatan waktu yang sama, mungkin bahkan lebih cepat.”

Vettel mengatakan jika perangkat keamanan tak terpasang, kemungkinan mobil hanya memiliki berat 600 kg seperti satu dekade lalu.

“Saya pikir yang terbaik adalah mobil memiliki berat 600-620 kg, itu memberikan Anda sensasi yang luar biasa. Sekarang, berat minimal adalah 750 kg,” kata Vettel.

Berat mobil memang menentukan saat memasuki tikungan dan juga membuat ban bekerja lebih keras. Seorang pembalap juga harus pandai mengendalikan mobil agar tak tergelincir.

“Anda akan memiliki perasaan yang jauh berbeda ketika mengendarai gokar,” ujar pembalap asal Jerman itu.

Setelah lima tahun berseragam Ferrari, Vettel belum mampu meraih gelar. Vettel adalah juara dunia F1 empat kali (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) namun semua bersama Red Bull Racing.
