Banyak orang berpendapat bahwa membaca sambil tiduran akan meningkatkan peluang mata minus atau miopia atau rabun jauh.

Lantas apakah benar membaca sambil rebahan memang membuat seseorang menjadi mata minus?

Alodokter menjelaskan bahwa mata minus atau rabun jauh disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor, yakni genetik atau keturunan dan kebiasaan.

Seseorang yang memiliki gen mata minus dari orang tua atau kerabat maka berpeluang juga mengalami miopia.

Begitu juga dengan seseorang yang memiliki kebiasaan membaca dengan jarak terlalu dekat atau menghabiskan waktu berjam-jam di depan gawai juga berpotensi mengalami rabun jauh.

Mengenai membaca sambil tiduran, Alodokter menjelaskan bahwa posisi tersebut tanpa sadar memperpendek jarak antara mata dengan lembaran buku hingga terlalu dekat dan mata cepat lelah.

Karena menurut para ahli, jarak antara mata dan buku yang ideal ketika membaca adalah 15 inchi atau sekitar 38cm dengan kemiringan 60 derajat.

Atau juga membaca sambil tiduran membuat seseorang tidak sadar bahwa lampu ruangan ternyata kurang terang sehingga membuat mata bekerja lebih keras.

Belum ada penelitian resmi yang membuktikan bahwa kebiasaan membaca sambil rebahan akan menjadikan mata menjadi minus.

Namun, laporan OpticalExpress menjelaskan bahwa membaca sambil rebahan menciptakan posisi tubuh yang membuat mata lekas tegang karena mata fokus ke atas dalam jangka waktu lama.

Kondisi mata kelelahan tersebut dinamakan asthenopia dengan gejala kelelahan, area mata kurang nyaman, penglihatan kabur hingga ganda, serta sakit kepala.

OpticalExpress mengatakan bahwa efek membaca sambil rebahan biasanya hanya sementara tetapi kelelahan mata berkelanjutan bisa berakibat buruk.

Oleh karena itulah, memeriksakan mata dua tahun sekali secara rutin menjadi salah satu cara untuk memastikan kesehatan mata.
