Mungkin tak sedikit dari Skorer yang pernah mendengar atau justru jadi salah satu orang yang percaya dengan pernyataan tersebut.

Lantas, apakah benar bahwa mencabut uban justru akan membuat rambut putih tumbuh semakin banyak?

Mind Body Green mewawancarai konsultan pewarnaan rambut, Matt Rez, untuk memastikan pernyataan itu, apakah mitos atau fakta.

"Pernyataan tersebut sepenuhnya mitos. Uban tidak akan tumbuh lebih banyak di tempat yang sama (jika sering dicabut)," ucap Matt Rez.

Pada dasarnya, uban atau rambut putih dipicu karena berkurangnya sel pigmen pada folikel atau pori kulit untuk tumbuhnya rambut di kepala.

Dengan berkurangnya sel pigmen, terutama karena usia, folikel pun mati. Rambut akan tumbuh tanpa melanin dengan warna perak, abu-abu, atau putih.

Dokter Shaskank Kraleti dari Universitas Arkansas, dilansir Hellosehat, mengatakan bahwa mencabut rambut putih adalah sebuah pekerjaan yang sia-sia.

Pasalnya, rambut yang tumbuh berikutnya juga akan tetap berwarna putih. Alias, tak serta merta berubah ke warna aslinya. 

Dengan mencabuti uban terus menerus menambah masalah untuk kulit kepala seperti trauma folikel rambut yang menyebabkan infeksi, bekas luka, hingga kebotakan.

Pertanyaan selanjutnya adalah bagaimana cara "menghilangkan" rambut putih yang aman, terutama untuk anak muda?

Hellosehat memberi saran, jika ada beberapa helai rambut putih, alangkah lebih baik dipotong atau dipangkas sependek mungkin.

Tentu, saran ini tidak serta merta membuat rambut putih hilang selamanya. Tapi, bisa menyamarkan uban hingga rambut kembali memanjang.

Matt Rez memberi dua saran untuk mengatasi persoalan uban, yakni terima kenyataan dengan percaya diri atau berkonsultasi dengan ahli.

Tindakan untuk mencegah banyaknya uban dapat dilakukan antara lain dengan mengelola stres, rajin olahraga, dan konsumsi makanan bergizi.
