Gula memberikan energi untuk proses fisiologis tubuh, seperti respirasi, irama jantung, regulasi suhu tubuh, dan masih banyak lagi.

Namun perlu diketahui bahwa konsumsi gula secara berlebih juga mampu datangkan dampak buruk bagi kesehatan.

Berikut ini adalah dampak buruk yang mungkin terjadi ketika terlalu banyak mengkonsumsi gula:

1. Selalu Ingin Makan

Kelebihan fruktosa pada tubuh juga dapat mengacaukan sistem metabolisme tubuh dengan mematikan sistem pengendali nafsu makan seseorang.

Kondisi tersebut memicu kegagalan tubuh dalam merangsang produksi hormon insulin, meningkatkan produksi hormon ghrelin yang berperan dalam menimbulkan rasa lapar, namun menurunkan produksi hormon leptin yang berperan dalam menimbulkan rasa kenyang.

2. Lemak Pada Perut

Semakin banyak gula yang dikonsumsi, maka akan semakin meningkatkan risiko tertimbunnya lemak pada lingkar pinggang dan perut.

Hal tersebut juga dapat meningkatkan risiko terjadinya obesitas.

3. Karies Gigi

Karies gigi terjadi ketika bakteri yang hidup di mulut mencerna sisa karbohidrat dari makanan yang dikonsumsi.

Bakteri tersebut akan membusuk dan memproduksi asam yang dapat menghancurkan enamel/dentin gigi.

4. Kerusakan Hati

Konsumsi gula berlebih dapat membuat tubuh kelebihan fruktosa yang dapat membebani hati dan menyebabkan perlemakkan hati.

Hal tersebutlah yang dapat memicu terjadinya komplikasi kesehatan.
