Namanya meroket sejak membintangi reality show bertajuk Keeping Up with The Kadarshian yang ditayangkan oleh E! mulai 2007.

Sejak itu pula, segala hal yang terkait dengan Kim Kadarshian dan keluarganya menjadi pembahasan media-media internasional. 

Termasuk soal bagaimana wanita asal Amerika Serikat (AS) menurunkan berat badan hingga puluhan kilogram usai melahirkan. 

Kim Kadarshian memilih diet atkins usai melahirkan anak keduanya dengan Kanye West, Saint West, pada 5 Desember 2015.

Secara umum, diet atkins adalah mengendalikan asupan karbohidrat dan lebih banyak mengonsumsi banyak protein dan lemak. 

Seperti dikutip dari Alodokter, diet atkins pertama kali diperkenalkan seorang dokter spesialis jantung, Robert Atkins, pada 1972.

Diet atkins beranggapan, dengan mengurangi karbohidrat akan membuat proses pembakaran lemak menjadi lebih efektif. 

Meski bisa cepat turunkan berat badan, efektivitas diet ini untuk mempertahankan bobot belum didukung penelitian yang kuat.

Masih dikutip dari Alodokter, dengan menjalani pola diet atkins, seseorang juga bisa menjaga kadar kolesterol dan gula darah. 

Berdasarkan sebuah studi, diet atkins memperbaiki kadar trigliserida dalam darah meski tak diketahui efeknya bertahan berapa lama.

Namun, di samping segudang manfaatkan, diet atkins juga memiliki risiko seperti sakit kepala, lelah, lemas, dan mual. 

Hal ini bisa terjadi akibat menurunnya asupan karbohidrat dalam tubuh, utamanya di fase-fase awal seseorang melakukan diet atkins. 

Adapun risiko lain yang tergolong berbahaya akibat kurangnya asupan gula atau karbohidrat untuk energi adalah ketosis.

Ketosis merupakan cara tubuh mencerna simpanan lemak dan menghasilkan keton sebagai zat sisa.

Beberapa gejala yang dikeluhkan karena zat keton yang menumpuk di dalam tubuh yaitu mual, sakit kepala, bau mulut, serta perubahan psikologis.
