Bagi sebagian orang, makanan pedas kerap dijauhi karena memberi sensasi panas di lidah dan perut ketika disantap.

Namun, tidak sedikit pula orang yang gemar mengonsumsi makanan pedas, dengan berbagai alasan yang mendasari.

Salah satunya adalah karena adanya anggapan yang menyebut makan pedas bisa menurunkan berat badan.

Faktanya, makanan pedas memang menyimpan banyak manfaat sehat, seperti yang dilansir dari Alodokter.

Mulai dari membantu menurunkan tekanan darah, melancarkan pencernaan, hingga membantu menurunkan berat badan.

Walau belum dipastikan secara medis, namun ada sejumlah alasan yang membuat sajian pedas layak masuk menu diet.

Sebab ada peran capsaicin, yaitu suatu senyawa yang paling banyak tersimpan pada cabai atau lada sebagai sumber rasa pedas.

Menekan nafsu makan

Penelitian menunjukkan mengonsumsi capsaicin dapat menurunkan asupan kalori saat makan dengan membuatmu merasa kenyang lebih cepat.

Hal itu dikarenakan efek berupa sensasi rasa panas yang diberikan capsaicin pada saluran cerna.

Selain itu, senyawa tersebut juga mampu menghambat sinyal lapar dari pencernaan ke otak, sehingga dapat membantu menurunkan nafsu makan.

Mempercepat proses metabolisme tubuh

Metabolisme adalah proses tubuh untuk mengubah kalori dari makanan menjadi energi.

Peningkatan temperatur tubuh saat mengonsumsi capsaicin dapat meningkatkan metabolisme tubuh meningkat hingga 5 persen.

Dengan begitu, makan sajian pedas dapat membantu membakar lebih banyak kalori sekaligus menghambat penyimpanan lemak.

Penelitian juga menyebutkan orang yang mengonsumsi capsaicin dapat membakar energi sekitar 50 kalori lebih banyak setiap harinya.

Itulah sebabnya mengapa mengonsumsi makanan pedas sering dikatakan bisa menurunkan berat badan.

Membantu membakar lemak

Penelitian menunjukkan mengonsumsi capsaicin dapat menurunkan ukuran lingkar pinggang dan membuat lekuk tubuh lebih ideal.

Alasannya karena capsaicin bisa meningkatkan pembakaran lemak sebanyak 16 persen, sekaligus mencegah penumpukan lemak di tubuh.
